Back to Pipe Organs of West - Central PA

Builder: Hook and Hastings
Year: 1910, op. 2247
Location: St. Catherine's Catholic Church, Dubois PA

Remarks: Set in a massively beautiful gothic church, this grand scale instrument unfortunately has fallen silent and has apparently been replaced by an electronic.  One source tells me, however, that it is still playable.  I played this organ in the fall of 1992 and recall its majestic sonority, especially the 16' wood pedal diapasons divided left and right along the inside of the case.  At that time, serious neglect was evident. At some point in time the original tubular pneumatic action was replaced and electrified by the Estey Company of Vermont.  My hopes are that the church will realize the historic and aesthetic value of this instrument and work toward it preservation and restoration.
