PROPOSED RENOVATION DETAILS including photos of the bellows reinstallation

Remarks:   Fortunately, this jewel of an organ has been left in almost total original condition in this massive historic pre Civil War era gothic church completed in 1854 located in a town with legendary ties as a link in the "Underground" Railroad.  According to veteran church member and historian, Emil Branas, the instrument was hand pumped until 1942.   At some unknown time, the 2rk Mixture stop was unfortunately replaced with a tremolo.  The Mixture was then reinstalled in the mid 1970's by a Franciscan priest, Fr. Alfred  Schendel.

Recently the church has embarked on a three phase renovation including:

  • Releathering of the bellows and double rise reservoir to include the reconstruction of the hand pumping mechanism and the elimination of the external blower pipe. See  below showing the before and after photos of the reservoir.  We decided to retain the local rock weights.
  • Replacement of the previous slide tuners with new stainless steel tuners, pipe repair and revoicing as necessary with addition of more swell louvers.
  • Restoration  of the facade pipe stenciling.
